What is corn cob blasting?

Corn cob blasting uses ground corn cob as the blasting media. It is a soft, natural material, so it lifts old stain, sealer, and gray weathering off the surface of the wood without gouging or pitting the logs. Most homes can be restored to near-new condition, ready for fresh stain.

Is your home ready for it?

These are the usual signs that the finish has failed and it is time to strip and refinish:

  • Logs are turning gray or silver
  • Stain or sealer is peeling, flaking, or wearing thin
  • Dark patches, streaks, or mildew are showing up
  • Water no longer beads on the surface
  • An old finish has built up in layers and will not take new stain evenly

How it compares

There is more than one way to strip a log home. Here is why we use corn cob.

Corn cob blasting

Gentle, natural media. Removes finish and weathering without harming the wood. No harsh chemicals in the stripping step.

Sandblasting

Aggressive media that can etch or pit softer wood and remove more of the log than it should.

Pressure washing

Forces a lot of water at the logs, which can raise the grain and push moisture into the wood.

What to expect

  1. Free estimate

We look at the home, talk through what you want, and give you a clear price.

  2. Blasting

We blast the exterior to remove old stain, sealer, and weathering, and clean up the media afterward.

  3. Refinishing

With the wood bare and clean, new stain and clear coat go on and last. We also do chinking and repair logs where needed.
